Emmele.

We all have mothers and to us they are one of the most important if not THE most important people in our lives. They are the ones to blow on our boo-boos and make us the best breakfast on a Sunday morning. Their love towards us is unconditional and selfless. Our love towards them should be exactly the same.
I remember one time when you made me take a bite of a herring sandwich knowing that I didn’t like it but hoping that I would. The ultimatum was that I could have some cake afterwards. Fact is that you actually never made me do anything that I didn’t want to do.. within reason, of course! For example, you did make me go to dancing school at the age of six even though I hated the idea. After thirteen years had passed, I could not have been more grateful to you. Mums – they always seem to know what’s best for you. Too bad we don’t realize it when we’re kids.
You’ve always been realistic and raised me to be like that as well and I am extremely happy that you did. Because of it I don’t have much room for disappointment. You always said “Hope for the best, but expect the worst” and that “In life we don’t always get what we want.” Some might see it as a bit harsh, but that’s the way life is. We all have to grow up some time. Still, a piece of us should stay childish to be able to laugh carelessly and enjoy life despite its mishaps.
This is exactly the way you are! You’ve managed to find the silver lining for almost everything. I think you got that from grandma, didn’t you? When you broke your right wrist you learned to jot with your left hand – no problem! You always know what to say, even if you don’t. And I love your sarcasm and your ability to make fun of life. I guess you had to learn how to – having had to juggle two jobs and raising three kids basically all on your own. Nonetheless, you managed to provide for us. Now, you’ve built a house with David and you can have a big garden; relax, have a glass of good wine on the terrace while enjoying a nice sunset.
You are such a role model, always standing strong. Keep doing that for at least as long as you have done so far.
Happy mother’s day to the most wonderful woman I know!
